The Duroc Company Duroc Rail signs eight-year maintenance contract with SJ – volume 500 wheelsets per year!

Duroc Rail, specialized in railway wheel maintenance, has become SJ’s new service partner. The agreement covers maintenance and transportation of three different types of passenger car wheels and is valid for four years with an option for an additional four years, starting October 1, 2025.
Duroc Rail has signed an agreement with SJ regarding maintenance, material supply, and transportation for three different types of passenger car wheels. The assignment covers approximately 500 wheelsets per year and includes wheel turning, bearing overhaul, wheel and brake disc replacement, as well as non-destructive testing. The work will be carried out at Duroc Rail’s newly built facility in Luleå, with transports mainly to and from Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Gävle.
“We are proud that SJ has entrusted us with wheel maintenance for the coming years. This gives us a great opportunity to continue developing through new expertise and operational investments. We aim to be an enabler for the development of rail traffic, working to shorten lead times and find smart transport solutions to keep the wheels available all year round, wherever they are needed,” says Daniel Eriksson, CEO of Duroc Rail.
With this agreement, Duroc Rail expands its assignments within passenger traffic, after previously focusing mainly on the maintenance of wheels for freight transport. This is a strategically important deal for the company, which over the past year, together with LKAB, has invested approximately SEK 300 million in a new production facility to meet the growing demand. Further investments are now expected.
“With SJ as a new customer, we are expanding our operations and will initially invest an additional SEK 20 million to strengthen our capacity. We are entering a very exciting time,” says Daniel Eriksson.
